The Tennessee General Assembly recently passed Public Chapter No. 746. This chapter allows counties to use funds from the Tennessee Department of Revenue to dispose of tires in a way most economically feasible for disposal. Prior to the passage of Public Chapter No. 746, Department of Revenue funds could only be used to dispose of tires at beneficial end-use.
The Tennessee Comptroller's Office of Local Government Audit (LGA) will be focusing more on T.C.A. § 68-211-874 in their auditing activities. LGA has released two documents to assist counties in ensuring their Department of Revenue funds are being used appropriately: 1) Waste & Scrap Tire Management Toolkit; and 2) Waste Tire Management Self Analysis.
